Land heats quicker then water. true or false?

Yes it heats quicker, and also cools quicker. Thats why if you live by a large body of water, that water generally won't change temperature much day to night, and vice versa. But the land will.Land heats quicker then water. true or false?

  • When two molecules of gases are heated, the av. kinetic energy of the molecule increases? true or false?

1)also is the rate of diffusion of NO2 greater than NH3??When two molecules of gases are heated, the av. kinetic energy of the molecule increases? true or false?
    True (kinetic theory of gases)

For next question, rate of diffusion of NH3 is higher. Refer to Graham's law of diffusion: rate of diffusion is inversely proportional to the square root of molar mass (molar mass of NO2 is higher than NH3)

I read that whale blubber is the new future of heating...true or false?

    It is soooo true!!!

I just read an article from this months ';Christians Unite!'; magazine and they found ways to make it!!

That magazine is so informative!!I read that whale blubber is the new future of heating...true or false?
Absolutely false. Whales are quickly becoming an endangered species and it would be inhumane not to mention utterly impossible.I read that whale blubber is the new future of heating...true or false?
    False.
True. Michael Moore will be keeping lots of folks warm.
absolutely, and it makes an excellent replacement for chewing gum as well
I plan on using a custom blend of grocery bags, styrofoam, and used tires.
False, but if that was true, whales would be extinct in 2 month.
    doesn't matter, whales are protected
hahahahaha sounds like a 12th century ad in the newyork times LOL
You must be asking this question for attention because no one can be that stupid. Your only about a hundred years off.
    Sure,why not?

I heard heating water in plastic in the microwave causes cancer. True or False?

There are a number of stories circulating about plastic bottles, heating plastic, plastic and water etc and cancer, and just about all of them stem from hoax emails.

Here are the facts about all the 'plastic bottles and cancer' scares - the freezing one, the warm bottles one, the microwave ones etc:

Oh, and nobody knows what causes cancer, so regard '------- causes cancer' claims with suspicion - the person is repeating hearsayI heard heating water in plastic in the microwave causes cancer. True or False?
Dioxin Carcinogens causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Don't freeze your plastic water bottles with water as this also releases dioxin in the plastic.

Dioxin are bad and bad for you. You should be using glass when heating food in the microwave.

The combination of fat high heat and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Dioxin are carcinogens and highly toxic to the cells of our bodies.I heard heating water in plastic in the microwave causes cancer. True or False?
SOME , not all, plastics will release carcinogens when heated. The key is to know whether or not the plastic you are using is ';microwave'; safe. If it doesn't say microwave safe on it somewhere, then it isn't.

    carcinogens do cause cancer.

True of false? Bettas can live in non-heated tanks inside a house?

true.. if you go to a pet store usually they have bettas in little cups or bowls and walmart use to sell them with plants on top in a vase, they do not require a heater, just make sure u keep them in lukewarm water and they will be fine. I have had mine a yr and he is healthy and kickingTrue of false? Bettas can live in non-heated tanks inside a house?
True, but tropical temperatures keep them happier!True of false? Bettas can live in non-heated tanks inside a house?
They can but its not good for them.
    true
I'm pretty sure Bettas can live within a non-heated tank, as long as the room temperature is fairly warm.

Remember, Bettas are tropical fish, so they live in warm waters.
    true and false.

they can live in a non-heated tank if the room is at a constant warm temperature, however if it's in a room where the temperature flucutates (heating switches on and off, air con) the tank will need a heater.

dramatically fluctuating temperatures can kill a fish.
This will depend on the temperature of your house.

Bettas do best when the water temperature is 76-80. Outside that range, they are lethargic and don't eat as well. If your room is warm enough to heat the water to somewhere within that range, fine. If not, you should get a heater.
    True
true ..but it would need to be a warm house
yes they can bec uas thay can live in a fish bowl.
Of course they can, they can even live with some other fish that are cold water type but not goldfish. They put too much amonia in the water and it will burn the scales of the betta. If you put him in a large enough tank you can put some guppies but they can't be crowded and be sure the guppies have hiding places, sometimes Bettas get an attiude. but be sure you use aquarium salt and water conditioner in the water.
FALSE: bettas need the warmer water because they are tropical fish.

They like a temp. range of 76 to 84 degrees F.
Normal temperatures. Away from drafts, vents and doors.
    true
TRUE! Usually the temperature in a house is warm and the water will be relatevely the same, so they can be ok. But they prefer warmer temperatures.
Neither. It depends on the temp of your house. If you normally keep your house it the mid 70's they should be okay. If you keep your house etremely cold, they will become lethargic and spend all of their time at the top of the tank. They do best with a heater, but CAN live without one.
my betta lived for 4 years in my non-heated tank but the other 8 that I have owend died w/in a year so I would say it is better to have a heated thank
it is true, but a betta in warmer water will be more active and colorful.
    FALSE.

Bettas are tropical and require warm temperatures just like any other tropical fish. Only the goldfish family can survive in cool water.
True, with a house that is 70 degrees or more all the time.
    true
true and false. you can keep Betta's in a non-heated tank they just per fer it more if the tank is heated but if you have baby guppies you need to keep the tank heated
my betta is living in a non heated tank. hes doing fine. i try to keep his tank close to a window so the sun can heat the water a little though.
True, I have a male betta and he's been in an unheated tank for a year now and as much life left in him.

Gas and heating-- true false questions?

    1. gases dissolve better when the pressure on the solution is decreased

    2. Heating a solution decreases the solubility of the gas in itGas and heating-- true false questions?
    1. False, remember that when you increase the pressure you force the molecules to collide and to reduce the potential energy of collisions molecules dissolve in the solvent. Therefore if you decrease the pressure the molecules will tend to escape from the solution to be free because naturally gases are a little soluble in liquids.

    2. True, if you increase the temperature the gases will escape, remember PV=nRT if you rearrange you get P=nRT/V and if T increases P increases and for the pressur to increase it is necessary that more molecules become to the gas phase. Heat increases solubility of ionic species only, not gas species.Gas and heating-- true false questions?
1 true----- im not entirely sure

    2 false---- heating increases soluability.

True or false and why: At a refinery, the oil is heated to condense the products?

    I would say false.

Crude oil is indeed heated, that part is true. However, the heating doesn't condense anything.

The process is called cracking. The process takes long hydrocarbon chains and breaks them into smaller ones. The process can take place by a number of means. At the very basic level, crude is heated under pressure to break the molecules.

On a very high level, the resulting hydrocarbon chains are distilled, treated, and seperated into different products. A barrel of crude can produce any or all of the following:

    gasoline

    diesel oil

    kerosene

    heating oil

    jet fuel

    other chemicals

So the resulting process seperates the products rather than condensing them.

How Stuff Works has a pretty good article on oil refining. It may be worth a look:

As milk products are heated, the calcium content decreases.. is this true/false and why?

I am doing a chemistry report and need some answers!

Thanks :DAs milk products are heated, the calcium content decreases.. is this true/false and why?
It will do nothing in regards to calcium content. Why? Because it's a metal element, not a protein you can denature, etc. It's in a ionic form, and wont be evaporating out.

If you were keen on removing the calcium, you'd need to add a something to precipitate it out of solution.

True or false an active solar heating system needs sunlight and electricity as sources of energy?

    true

Oceans(water ) will heat faster and cool faster than continents(land). true or false? why?

False. Water has a high specific heat capacity, which means that it is slow to change temperature. The temperature of the ocean always lags behind that of the air on a seasonal cycle.Oceans(water ) will heat faster and cool faster than continents(land). true or false? why?
False. Earth is a container carrying oceans as contents. That is why earth has different levels or heights on different sides. Sea level is the same. Contents heat and cool after container is heated or cooled.Oceans(water ) will heat faster and cool faster than continents(land). true or false? why?
False. Water has a large heat capacity, and supports thermal circulation, increasing the mass to be heated or cooled.
    true
land masses give off heat faster than water
    yes
Land masses definetely give off heat and cool down faster. If you think about it. It takes a while before you can go out and swim in the ocean because the water is so cold. Also it takes a long time before the ocean can get as cold as the land can.
The ocean is flat as compared to land(mountains, buildings, trees), therefore the sun's rays are'nt broken up, thus the water captures more heat. When the sun sets, the water will cool rapidly because of its flatness and all the cold water beneath the surface is draining the heat away. Now having said all that, I would'nt bet any money on if its true or not, just seems to be common sense to me,but I can't count the number of times I've been wrong! Good luck in finding a good answer. It was a great question.

Do dogs go into false pregnancy every time they're in heat?

I just asked about my dog being in heat. when we got her, the breeder said she was at the end of heat. the false pregnancy last time lasted for a good 2 months. she told us that it was part of being in heat but i'm guessing not. my family doesn't have enough money at the moment to get her fixed but we plan to in the near future. does she definately go into false pregnancy after heat, or is it only sometimes? Also, if she was producing ,milk when we got her, and it didn't go away for about a month, would that definately be a false pregnancy or could it be someting else? we later found out that the person we got her from didn't take much care of her because she had a food allergy and it was causing her to bald.Do dogs go into false pregnancy every time they're in heat?
Not all dogs do it, but if they've done it once they're likely to do it again, each time.Do dogs go into false pregnancy every time they're in heat?
It sounds like this breeder you got her from was very irresponsible.

I hope you can find your answer here. I apologize, because I don't have any experience with dogs in heat. I just wanted to say thank you for planning on spaying her!
You really need to get her fixed! I know you just said that your family doesn't have enough money (which I don't even know WHY anyone would get a pet if they cannot be financially responsible) but there are several places that offer FREE or CHEAP spaying and nueder for LOW INCOME people. Or just say it's your grandmothers or grandfathers and usually you can get the procedure done for free.
Not all dogs go into false preg. I had one that went into it every time she went into heat and would carry her toys around and tuck them into her stomach when she would lay down we ended up having her spayed to spare her from the ordeal. I am glad you got her allergy under control. I would check around and see if you can find a low cost spay and nueter clinic in your area. They can be a lot cheaper .
How did you find out about a food allergy? Save for the spaying, females bodies go through all the stages as if they had pups but on a very subliminal level. Some females more and some less. Best to spay and prevent unwanted litters, some illnesses and it's pure convenience as well.
Take her to a low cost spay/neuter clinic like Petluv, it is only about 55. there.

Call your local Humane Society to find out what low cost clinics or vets there are in your area.

It was good of you to take the little dog and nurse her back to health, but she sounds as if she would be far better off spayed, so try to get her done asap.

No, it is not normal for a dog to have false pregnancy or milk, I am wondering if the breeder didn't lie to you about her never having been bred - sounds as if she had puppies at one point.

Most females go into 2 heat cycles a year, without false pregnancy. Your dog may have some problems with heats and really should be spayed soon.

Good luck, I'm glad you saved her and gave her a loving home. Now do your best by her and find a low cost spaying service (they give shots very reasonably too if she needs any more).
some breeds are more likely to have false pregnancies than others... you should get her spayed so she does not get pyometra

True of False? Air particles trapped near Earth's surface help heat the surrounding air? Thanks.?

False. The solar radiation that's trapped by the earth's atmosphere as well as clouds is what heats the earth's surface. Also, heat from the Earth's core helps keep the surface warm as well.

False because it has lost energy in the form of heat to the surroundings.
The product cannot be of higher potential energy. According to the law of conservation of energy, energy can neither be created nor be destroyed, it can only be transformed from one form to another. so the energy of the reactants is equal to that of the products.

Shaq was showing signs of aging and wasn't the dominant Shaq we were used to seeing in 2006.

You can absolutely make the case that DWade is the World's best player

and its not much of a case because he easily was the 2006 Heat best playerTrue or False: Dwyane Wade was the Miami Heat's best player in 2006?
Dwyane Wade has unfortunately never been the world's best player, and he isn't likely to be in the forseeable future if LeBron James is breathing.

However, he was easily the best player on that team which happened to win a ring, so that is worth something.

The best player in the world up until 2008 was Tim Duncan, for the record.
Wade is a beast..he is underated because we talk about kobe and lebron..I think wade individualy had a better yr than Kobe..Kobe just had the best supporting cast of the 3 by far..

    I rate this yr 1.Lebron 2. Wade(respectable) 3. Kobe

Lebron is a better playmaker and gets his team envolved which is very important thats all I give him over wade..and Kobe..because they all are good scorers. and defensive players when they want to be..
hes a great player, one of my favorites actually.

    arguing tips:

you cant argue something that happened in 2006.

and you have to compare him for his career.

true, best mind and player,,i also still like lamar ddom, miss him on our heat team
It is so close that sometimes its true and sometimes its not. wade determines wether he is by how well he plays. lebron determines that also by how well he plays and kobe does the same. They are all three on a whole other level compared to the rest of the league, they are just spectacular, exciting players who make their teams better, are killer, very good in clutch, and can do everything. THey are all incredible athltes, get into the paint, and at least quality pull up jumpshooters.

As offensive players they are masterful adn their defense has been getting progressively better as a unit for a while now.

Wade was the best heat player on that team, shaq was aging and accepted that he was just a compliment.

I love flash as a nickname for wade, it so accurately describes his game. he gets into the paint, you lose him as he draws 2 or 3 help difenders and disappears among the so called ';tree's'; and you only see him again hammering down a thunderous dunk for a big man let alone the guard, one handed, off the dribble.

Wade recieves less attnetion because of the youth of miami and his injury but when i saw him at the beggining of his comeback at the olympics i thought just what u did, best player in the world, hands freaking down.

however this leagu's top tier has gotten crowded with three very different players who can all do evrery thing the game has to offer.

I love wade because of his athleticism and how hard he goes to the whole for a little guy. a spectacular athlete with more aggression than lebron and after i saw his shot against cleveland i was stunned, what a play.

Dwayne wade is in a race closer than any otehr for best player in a crowded top tier with alot of skill, and if his team picsk up some players they are sure to contend, especially if they keep adn develop jo again and sign bosh like people expect.

Her second tie was on the 19th of FEB, so that would make her due TOMORROW the 24th, and her last tie was on the 20th of FEB making her DUE on the 25th of April... how likely is it she is having a false pregnancy, I mean i bred her 3 times and each time she tied for 15 minutes!!? Should I just wait or take her in to the vet ASAP? Shes nesting, milk coming out of her nipples, shes gained a little weight, but belly not as big as Ive seen other chihuahuas her size (shes 5lbs)My dog had her heat in Feb %26amp; tied 3 times! She looked prego, but no pups still. Could this be a false pregnancy
She should have seen her vet long before now for pre-natal exam to make sure everything's ok. No sense delaying any longer. My dog had her heat in Feb %26amp; tied 3 times! She looked prego, but no pups still. Could this be a false pregnancy
An xray or ultrasound will give you the definitive answer. Since many chi's are born via c-section, consultation with your vet is important! If she is pregnant and has nonproductive contractions a section may be necessary to save both mom and babies. I'd see the vet ASAP.
inexperienced breeders... please hope she is not pregnant and spay her. i hope she does not die if she is, when giving birth
Another wannabe backyard breeder ... DESEX NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wouldn'y panic yet. Just watch her closely. If she strats straining and trying to push a puppy out and no puppy comes in a couple of hours oor if the puppy sac comes out and not puppy comes for a couple oof hours, take her to the vet right away. She is still within the time frame for her pregnancy. She may just be having one or 2 pups and that is why she doesn't look very big. Good luck. I hope everything goes okay.
Take her to the vet right away. She could have a false pregnancy, or she could be carrying only 1-2 pups--the reason she is not that big in the belly. The fact that there was 3 breedings with ties each time would lead you to believe that she is pregnant, but false pregnancies happen quite a bit.
First of all you should never breed your dog in its first heat.you should wate for a second or third heat.this is just to insure that your dogs reproductive system is mature enough and ready to have pups.second dont have the male dog get stuck to the female to many times.this can cause your dog to have alot of pups, which is realy hard on the dog and can be unhealthy. Also dont breed the same dog to manytimes its also unhealthy.

What is the use pf plaster of paris can it act like false ceiling to prevent excess heat is it safe?

Once you make a ceiling out of plaster of paris... it IS a cieling... and cannot be a false ceiling. In order to DO that you'd have to build a structure to hold the weight of the plaster. That structure, combined with the plaster itself, and the fact that it is in a plane over people's heads. MAKE it a ceilingWhat is the use pf plaster of paris can it act like false ceiling to prevent excess heat is it safe?
It sounds like you're wanting a drop ceiling which is a far cry from plaster. Plaster is heave and a drop ceiling id light and will breath.

If my dog went through a false pregnancy after her first heat. well this cause her 2nd heat to be off track?

We have a lab which she is in training to be a service dog. Our trainer decided that she would like to breed her this one time and save 2 females from the litter, than spay the mother. She has already gone through her first heat, and should be coming up on her second heat. But shortly after she went through the first heat she went through a false pregnancy. Will this cause her 2nd heat to be late, or have complications when ever we do breed her? Do you think that it is a good idea to breed her after she has gone through a false pregnancy? If my dog went through a false pregnancy after her first heat. well this cause her 2nd heat to be off track?
The dog is in training to be a service dog and the trainer wants to breed her? I question the professional ethics of this trainer. If my dog went through a false pregnancy after her first heat. well this cause her 2nd heat to be off track?
I once heard of a connection between false pregnancies and uterus cancer/tumors,I would recommend not breeding her because of the chance that she could pass this on her her female pups, unless you assure that she and all the females are definitely spayed, thus not carrying on the gene, and not having a uterus to get a tumor of cancer...
If she has already had a false pregnancy then yes, it would be very dangerous to breed her. She could have serious complications. Obviously there is something wrong with her hormone levels. Get her spayed to keep her healthy and alive.
False pregnancy carries with it a much higher rate of pyometra, and you shouldn't even think of allowing her to breed. The faster you spay her, the better.
honey all dogs do a false pregnancy to one extent or another. but yes one who does it to the full degree is more prone to pyo and will usually do a false every heat and breeding them makes it WORSE the next time around.

    False!
    false
    False

a current is passed thru a gas(often inert) and the particles are 'excited' by the charge and vibrate when they collide they fluoresce
False. Fluorescence occurs because something, often light, provides energy to the electrons within a material. These electrons retain that energy, which causes them to be promoted to a higher energy level. After some time passes the electrons will lose this energy, and because of energy conservation a photon is emitted. It is this photon which is the fluorescent light. Phosphorescence works in the same way only using different decay pathways to lose the energy.
false. it's caused by gas and chemical reaction.

As long as cells are respiring heat is always produced as a by-product of respiration. Even when cells are ';at rest'; basic metabolic reactions are taking place which require respiration and so heat is produced.

true/false scienceTure or false snow-coverd ground absords more heat from the sun than does a field of dark boulders?
    false, obviously.

light colors reflect heat, dark colors absorb it.

this is like, elementary school stuffTure or false snow-coverd ground absords more heat from the sun than does a field of dark boulders?
False. Darker objects absorb more heat than lighter objects. A snow covered ground would reflect more sun than a field of dark boulders would. Think about why we hear about people preferring to wear white shirts compared to black shirts in the summer. Lighter objects have a higher albedo than darker objects (extent and object can reflect light).
I'm going to say false, seeing as dark colors absorb more heat energy from the sun when compared to light or white colored objects.

  • True or False: The 2005-06 Heat was a ';Older Team'; then the 2007-08 Spurs?

Age comparison between the main players:

    2006 Heat vs 2008 Spurs?

    Shaquille O'neal age: 34

    Tim Duncan age: 31

    Dwyane Wade age: 24

    Tony Parker age: 25

    Alonzo Mouring age: 36

    Manu Ginobili age: 30

    Gary Payton age: 37

    Bruce Bowen age: 36

Anyways, as you can see, the Heat was clearly the OLDER team and my point is that everyone was talking about how OLD the Spurs were last year and in the playoffs it showed...but at the same time people want to ACT like Dwyane Wade had this spectacular team full of prime All-Stars in the 2005-06 Season but in reality he had a team that was older then the last years Spurs that couldn't do jack. Dwyane Wade Haters, like it or not, Wade carried a VERY OLD team that shouldn't of won in 2005-06 but Wade is just that GREAT (unlike Kobe or Lebron)! If the younger but old 2007-08 Spurs couldn't win because of their age then what makes you think that the older 2005-06 Heat should had won? Dwyane Wade was the only young superstar on that team and he's the ONLY reason why they won and if you don't believe it check the stats:

apparently... and plus the heat is 4 years and spurs were only 2 years ago... in exsistance...
    Gary Payton didn't play though.
Yes. Wade was so old, he needed a wheelchair for his shoulder pain.
    Yeah..........

This just shows us that age doesn't matter..
Wade carried them that year, but all that veteran talent played a huge role. so dont say its only wade. Shaq took a lot of d coverage and posey/jwill/toine were huge role players. but wade did ALOT especially in the finals
Dude, what does this prove? that the Heat were an older team than the Spurs? yeah, so what.

Age doesn't make that big of a difference, it may slow you down a bit but that's it. Just because the Heat were older than the Spurs team of last year means nothing. They still got it done. With Shaq getting double and triple teamed each night, and Wade recieving great passes from a Hall Of Fame player in Gary Payton and another great passer in Jason Williams.

PLUS, Wade also had a great supporting cast. He had guys like Walker, Haslem, and even Zo if you want to put him in that category to help relieve the pressure on Wade.

And if you can't see that than I'm sorry, you must have something really stuck up your a$$.

Not trying to be rude, but bro come on. Stop being so dang ignorant!
Why do you constantly babble on about how Wade single handedly took the Heat to a ring. First, off that series was controversial to begin with. Not to mention those ';veterans'; as you call them played a huge role in winning a title and it was not just D.Wade. For anyone to downplay a team and say it was an individual who won a championship shows that your basketball knowledge can be questioned.

Shaq was not the same Shaq in those playoffs stat wise. But, he still accomplished a double double in those playoffs and bitched Erika Dampier around. Making it easier for Wade to make his forays to the hole. It was Shaq's presence alone that marked the Heat w/ an advantage those playoffs. Shaq averaged 20/9 in the regular season that year. Furthermore, Jason Williams was a very good pg that learned under Hubie Brown in Memphis to tone his game more and play championship sound basketball. Other players, like GP came through down the stretch and Zo - who is still the best Heat in history did a lot as a role player. Something he was not accustomed of being as he was a banger and hustle type. Alos, Udonis Haslem is a very good player, Antoine Walker still had some game that year as did Derek Anderson. You had the perimeter d of Posey. Not to mention 5x champ coach in Pat Riley.

Im beginning to think you are some 12-14 year old kid who is just passionate individualistically about only D.Wade and could care less of the Miami team cause you foolishly say it was all him and he is the best. I would take LBJ23 over him in a heart beat and by you saying he is career wise better than Iverson is also foolish. Furthermore, the only player you can say fully carried his team to a title is Tim Duncan. The 1999 Spurs had an over the top David Robinson who went from putting up Hakeem #'s to Andrew Bogut ones. The rest of the team contained washed up has beens, like Porter, Jaren Jackson, Avery Johnson, Steve Kerr - who played 4 mpg that year, and Mario Elie. Only youngsters where Duncan, Antonio Daniels, and Malik Rose.

physicalWhen stea, condense into water heat is released at 100celsius.it is true or false?
    False.

It is only true for pure water steam at 1atm pressure.

Water condenses if the partial pressure in gas phase exceeds the vapor pressure of pure water. The vapor pressure rises monotonously with the temperature. That means condensation temperature rises with the pressure.

    e.g.

water vapor at 10atm condenses at 180掳C

false, most of the heat leaves as vapor. When hot coffee is poured into a mug, all the heat the coffee loses is absorbed by the mug. true or false?
False...much of the heat is transferred to the cooler air above the liquid.
false, like the last guy said the heat will be mainly transferred to the cooler air above it along with some moisture, also out of the heat that does hit the cup some of that is reradiated out and not held by the cup anymore
    False.

When you pour hot coffee into a mug, there will be a sudden drop in temperature as heat is transferred from the coffee into the mug. As the mug heats up, the rate of transfer decreases.

Two other ways heat is lost are:

Evaporation of the coffee. That's related to the ';steam'; you see coming off the coffee in cold weather. It cools the coffee just like evaporation of sweat cools you on a hot day. The ';steam'; is not technically steam, it is condensed water vapor similar to a cloud.

Transfer of heat to the air by conduction and convection. The coffee warms the air above it.

false, all things have heat this is what makes the molecules in objects move according to the kinetic theory of heat. even though solids have particles that move only slightly they still have energy(heat) that causes them to move. The only time a substance would have no heat is if it were at absolute 0 that would be -273 C or 0 K.An ice cube does not have any heat. true or false?

Do your own homework kid.True or false - A release of heat occurs when water within a cloud forms ice.?
Ask yourself this: Does the evaporation of your sweat cool your skin? If it does, does it mean that water going from solid to liquid (melting) or, from liquid to vapour (evaporation), needs to take heat energy?

Could it then be that the opposite; when water goes from vapour to liquid (condensation) or from liquid to solid (freeze) that it gives away energy in the form of heat?

Yes, all of the above is true: water that freezes give away heat. If you observe a thermometer near the ground as the temperature outside sinks below freezing point, you will see that when it comes to 0 C (32 F) and freezes, it makes a kind of stop there: The freezing process must first give away a bit of heat that warms up the air. Then it continues to fall.

The same can be observed when the temperature rises above freezing point; near the ground, it makes a stop before continuing.True or false - A release of heat occurs when water within a cloud forms ice.?

Interesting its phrased in the form of a question but it's true or false. Water does collect and store heat, but during the day. At night it releases the heat into the cooler atmosphere.

Temperature is a measure of the amount of heat stored in a substance... true or false?

temperature is the measure of the kinetic energy of the molecules of a substance

more kinetic energy more heatTemperature is a measure of the amount of heat stored in a substance... true or false?
    False.

It is the movement of atoms in the the material. The hotter the temperature, the faster the atoms are moving - smashing into each other and ';off the sides'; so to speak.

As the temperature falls, the atoms are moving slower and slower.

As you can see from this explanation, temperature simply can't go down forever. Eventually, the atoms come to a complete standstill. This is at the temperature -273 degrees C or ';absolute Zero'; or ';Kelvin';. There is no temperature colder than this. Even in deepest outer space, it is a degree or two above this.

I feel like a and b are both correct. I believe c to be false, but I'm not sure. I think d may be false, too. Can someone help me understand?Which is false in this heat of formation question?
As the only difference between the two reactions is the physical state of the water produced, it's clear that the difference in the heats of formation reflects the heat or enthalpy of vapourisation of water. In fact a very simple example of Hess's law enables the value to be derived, by reversing the second equation

    H2(g) + 陆O2(g) 鈫?H2O(g) . . . . . . . 螖H = -241.8 kJ/mol

    . . . . . . H2O(l) 鈫?H2(g) + 陆O2(g) . 螖H = +285.8 kJ/mol

    -----------------------------------.--鈥?br>

    . . . . . . H2O(l) 鈫?H2O(g) . . . . . . . .螖H = +44.0 kJ/mol

In fact the value I have for the molar heat of vapourisation of water is 40.7 kJ/mol, but this is near enough. Note that Hess's method explicitly states that if you reverse an equation, the sign of the 螖H value must be changed, so an exothermic reaction becomes endothermic, and vice versa.

And this really covers all of your option statements: reaction (1) gives the heat of formation of water in the gas phase, while (2) gives it for the liquid phase. Both are exothermic reactions, but become endothermic if the equation is reversed. From the procedure I gave above, the phase change from liquid water to vapour requires the addition of heat ie it's endothermic, so the heat or energy content in the gas phase is higher (so option d is incorrect). And the heat required - the latent heat of vapourisation - is around +40 kJ/mole (note that strictly speaking the equation in option e is not a reaction, but a change in phase, but that's a minor point).

I hope this is all clear and makes sense to you!Which is false in this heat of formation question?
i wonder if people chillin out on the computer on a sunday afternoon want to help you with your homework.

True or false, when boiling an egg the white becomes hard because the albumin protein is dentured by the heat?

It is true.True or false, when boiling an egg the white becomes hard because the albumin protein is dentured by the heat?
    It's denatured by heat.

    True, here's why.

When you heat an egg, the proteins gain energy and literally shake apart the bonds between the parts of the amino-acid strings, causing the proteins to unfold. As the temperature increases, the proteins gain enough energy to form new, stronger bonds (covalent) with other protein molecules.

When you boil an egg, the heat first breaks (unfolds) the proteins, and then allows the proteins to link to other proteins. As the proteins form these new, strong bonds, the water that surrounded each protein molecule when the egg was liquid is forced out. That's why the egg turns hard. (Heat affects all of the proteins in an egg, so it's the best way to cook an egg.) True or false, when boiling an egg the white becomes hard because the albumin protein is dentured by the heat?
True - the process is driven by denaturing of the egg white protein; albumin is an egg protein - so this stands to reason.

(Though - if this is a trick question - I'd check to make certain albumin is the 'egg white' protein just in case).

You really need to do some serious homework before you even think about breeding your dog. So many things can go wrong when breeding dogs, particularly toy breeds. Though you may mean well, ignorance could cost you the life of not only the puppies, but the mother as well. How often will my yorkie come in heat..she had a false pregnancy 4 months ago, the vet said go ahead and breed
i think it is every 6 months to a year but im not sure

True or false energy is transferred as heat from a substance at high temperature to a substance at low temp.?

True, energy is always attempting to achieve equilibrium.True or false energy is transferred as heat from a substance at high temperature to a substance at low temp.?
I think that statement is true. I assume that it follows the rules of diffusion (when something in a liquid or gas moves from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration). It is kind of like putting a little bit of cool water into a tub of already hot water. The hot water transfers some of its heat to the cool water to even things out. This way, the hot water looses some of its heat and the cool water gains some so they both become the same temperature.

Hope i helped...True or false energy is transferred as heat from a substance at high temperature to a substance at low temp.?
true. Its called a exothermic reaction.
    It's true, of course.

True or False: Some of the internal heat in the Earth is created by radioactive decay.?

100 % trueTrue or False: Some of the internal heat in the Earth is created by radioactive decay.?
This is true. The Earth contains a lot of uranium some of which is fissionable and fission releases heat. This effect would've been more prominent in Earth's early history when the fissionable uranium was much more abundant. There is even evidence that sustainable fission reactions were taking place in there ore deposits check the link.True or False: Some of the internal heat in the Earth is created by radioactive decay.?
    absolutely true

'; Power source of the Earth's core

    The core of the Earth is still hot because it contains radioactive uranium which was derived from a local supernova explosion before the earth formed. It is the heat produced by radioactive decay that has prevented the Earth's core from cooling and solidifying[citation needed]. Heat sources include gravitational energy released by the compression of the core, gravitational energy released by the rejection of light elements (probably S, O, or Si) at the inner core boundary as it grows, latent heat of crystallization at the inner core boundary, and radioactivity of K or U.';
Here is my take on astrophysics and how the earth was formed etc.

First, , the Sun is a nuclear reaction .

The Earth was a nuclear reaction the same way.

The Sun will turn into a planet a little bigger than the earth

    Getting the picture?

It is a life and death cycle.

Energy to matter , matter to energy

So the Earth was a Star and is now at the stage of its life where there is just molten material in the core . Dig down about 30 miles and you hit lava . Dig down about 1000 miles and you find gold

Well , not all gold , sorry to say, but all the heavy metals. Plutonium , Strontium , Uranium etc. at the central area .

So you see we are floating on a metal Ingot .

The crust of which is about as thick as an egg. Earth is 8000 miles in diameter remember.

Now as a metal Ingot cools it hardens at the crust and shrinks causing the crust to crack and fold like a grape changes to a raisin.

Mountains , Ocean trenches , Volcanoes , Earthquakes , Geysers , are all effects of the shrinking forces.

The Moon is much smaller and has completely hardened with the heavy metals at its core off to one side . So it is locked in to face the gravity of earth and doesn't rotate . Thats why the man in the moon is always looking at you .

    As for your question .

There is many radioactive materials on the surface , like Radium, Uranium , and other Isotopes . Even radioactive Carbon is used to date Organic material . So you have radioactive elements in your body.

Knowing this , and the concept that the Earth was a Star in its youth,

It is easy to understand if there is relatively high radioactivity around Volcanoes , as one of the Answers confidently suggest .

Looking at the original Question , , , Maybe I have created more !!

    Sorry.

I would say there is surely radioactivity present but the heat created by the slow process of radioactive decay would be extremely small .

The net effect is the earth is elderly, and continuing to cool as it has been for the last 4 billion years . If my memory serves me correctly. I was quite young at the time.
    False.

No atomic bomb would ever get close enough to the earth's core to heat the ENTIRE planet. the sun's radioactive rays have a greater effect on temperature than anything the U.S or Iraq or Russia can drop on someone.
All of it is created by radioactivity.
May not be true. Earth was burning like Sun billions of years ago. It started cooling and reached to the current stage that its crux is still hot.
Due to the fact that radiation levels are higher around volcanoes, I'd say true.
    False

Since you don't know the answer to this. Take her to the vet. Then get her spayed since you already had a warining the last heat cycle. This is why so many puppies are placed in shelters to die. All owners should be responsible enough to get their dogs fixed or they shouldn't have dogs. You should be leaving the breeding to the breeders, who are responsible enough to have home lined up for puppies before they are ever concieved. And who do genetic testing to screen for any health problems. And also who show their breeding stock to make sure they conform to breed standards.
I would go and see your vet. Or do some research online. Good Luck!!!

well why are they telling you this is a false heat? All dog's are in heat for 3 weeks... 7 Days coming in 7days in the middle and 7 days going out. And all Females are different. most will breed only on certain days of their heat cycle.
Lesson #1: Just because you've never heard of something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Yes, ';false heats'; exist. No, this isn't a breed-specific issue.

Hopefully the dog is spayed? Assuming she is, some hormonal testing may be in order.

Edited to add: By the way, it's Shih Tzu.
';False heat'; is when a SPAYED female animal exhibits symptoms of being in heat. If the animal has not been spayed, what you have there is not ';false heat,'; but the real thing.

False heat is usually a result of a botched spay operation. Either the doctor missed part of the ovary, or dropped ovarian tissue into the incision, and it reimplanted. However, any dog or cat should experience AT MOST one ';false heat'; period. If it happens a second time, you need to get her to the vet.

True or false. food would no longer heat up if the frequency is changed on a microwave?

I would think that it would be TRUE. The reason I say that is because microwaves make the h2o molecules vibrate which produces heat. If the frequency was changed,it would no longer make the h2o molecules vibrate so there wouldn't be any heat produced.

  • How true or false is the statement that every person in the world could have food, water, shelter and heat?

There are the resources to provide it, without question.

It all comes down to distribution - economics.

It all comes down to greed of a few prevailing over the needs of the many. How true or false is the statement that every person in the world could have food, water, shelter and heat?
    Currently---and sadly---the answer is ';false';.

Governments all over the world enact brutal poverty upon it's people not only as a means to control them, but they PROFIT from their brutality.

Even in the United States, there are profitable opportunities some take by keeping scores of Americans impoverished.

As long as this planet hosts world insensitive governments blinded by hate and greed, scores of millions world-wide will face daily hell in poverty. A solution to solve this problem is beyond our scope to realize, much less actually carry out / enforce. How true or false is the statement that every person in the world could have food, water, shelter and heat?
Of course it is true. Every person in the world could have 3 meals a day ONLY using the food that the US throws out each day. The problem is logistics, governmental interference/corruption, support, and education. The costs and logistics of sending over our unwanted food is a problem....the governments that receive/distribute/or interfere with that food shipment.....the fact that we can't send food and money for the rest of our lives and our children's lives make for a difficult issue as well.....with education, people can learn to feed themselves...to teach themselves and their communities...so that they no longer have to rely on aid. Investing in sustainability is more costly in the short term, which is why we don't do it....but in the long run, it makes FAR better sense economically.
    True.

Provided people are willing to make sacrifices should the need arise.

Some people may have to go without shelter and therefore heat, Some people may have to go without food or water.

It can only be achieved provided All of Humanity was prepared to Help One Another.

While we consider each other to be enemies this cannot occur.
It's true that the world produces enough that every person could have these things.

But, if they were given away for free, people would stop working as hard--because they no longer need to work to survive--and productivity would decline, in effect, making the world produce too little.
Hmm thats a good one. America does throw away tons of food and re-usable items although that trend has declined becasue of the reecession and basic awarness of global warming. There are more than 6 bllion people in this world. If u believe in god, then he says i will provide for everyone in this world. We have space, thats not the issue, the issue is POVERTY.
you could give every person on the planet food, water and shelter BUT how many would have to go before the remainder would fit in that answer?

';everybody'; isn't going to make it, you'll have to let some go before that happens.
    its true but it probably wouldnt last long besides most of the world is selfish therefore by equaling things out your taking away from people and most wont be too happy about that. its a nice logic but the resources wouldnt allow it aswell as the ';rich';
Should have, yes. Can have, probably not possible. This question should be asked in a more humanitarian section then politics. We should all carry our brothers....not expect government to do it for us.
It's very false. There are many who die in the world everyday because of hunger alone
$800 billion could give shelter, heat and food to a crap load of people, fo sho.
could happen, but its not in our nature to let everyone have that. Some will always have more and want to oppress others.
    False.

If it was true we wouldn't have that problem going on everyday.
Not everyone can there are those that won't do for themselves
    False,

    but we can try.
    umm.. false?

i dont really understand the question.
    VERY true.

we'd all have to cut back on luxuries..but yes, it is possible.

    wouldn't it be worth it?
    true
we'd probably run out of air before that happened
True, if the yanks cut back usage

When heat is released the system undergoes a decrease in enthalpy?True or false?

false. When heat is released the system undergoes a decrease in enthalpy?True or false?
    Enthalpy or H

    Let's say H = 25 kJ initial

But then the system loses heat

    Let's say H = 15 kJ final

So delta H (final minus initial) = -10 kJ

If delta H is negative then the reaction is exothermic and thus energy is released

Therefore: A system that decreases in enthalpy (delta H is negative) will be evident due to the resulting heat felt on the reactant side of the chemical reaction. That heat is being transferred from the system to the surroundings.

    Example

Whenever hydrocarbons burn they produce carbon dioxide and water plus heat

    Chemically speaking....

    C6H12O6 + O2 -----%26gt; CO2 + H20 + Energy %26lt;note: reaction not balanced%26gt;

    Answer: TRUE

    Bogus/False heat complaints?

Hello I work in a Landlord's office as a secretary. I noticed that recently the City COde Enforcement has been calling stating that a tenant in X apt has complained about heat. However when I asked the tenants name they said its Jane Doe. SO I said well the tenant is John Shmoe and he just moved in today, they said that they needed to check anyway because its a complaint. FOr example today its appx 70 degrees out and this Jane Doe person complained about no heat. What can we do to prove that these complaints are false?

BTW when the inspectors go to check there is no violation whatsoeverBogus/False heat complaints?
There is no way to prevent a troublesome tenant from calling the city. Just let the inspectors inspect and they'll see that the claim is bogus.Bogus/False heat complaints?
You ask the inspector what the temperature is in the apartment.

Next you ask for the Apartment number and complainant's name.

Otherwise how do you know which apt to send maintenance to.

Put the onus on the inspector so he can charge John Shmoe with harassment and filing false complaints.

terrible to say but I had a tenant like that. We installed a digital thermostat wired to the electricity but not to the furnace. They were happy for years putting the heat up and down at their whim.
Sounds like John Shmoe is another one of those people out to scam and sue for as much money as he can.

    True or false? Heat transfer?

    True or false:

    i) Heat radiation is sometimes called infrared radiation.

ii) Conduction involves the transfer of energy between moving particles.

iii) Hot objects do not absorb radiation.

iv) Convection always involves a moving liquid or gas.

    v) Cold objects do not emit radiation.

If any of these are false, why?

Thankss. xTrue or false? Heat transfer?
    i) Heat radiation is sometimes called infrared radiation - T.

ii) Conduction involves the transfer of energy between moving particles.

    - F - not quite true - it involves the transfer by vibration of molecules - they do not move from their position

iii) Hot objects do not absorb radiation. -F not quite true. It depends on how hot is ';hot';! - heat is transferred from a hot object to a cooler one. But the hot object may be next to a hotter one

iv) Convection always involves a moving liquid or gas. - T

    v) Cold objects do not emit radiation. -F.not quite true. define how cold is ';cold';?

Your hand may feel cold but it still radiates heat energy.

A bag of frozen peas taken to the Antarctic will be warmer than its surroundings so will radiate heat. True or false? Heat transfer?
i pretty sure this one is true

ii i would say this one is false conduction is the transfer of heat between two objects that are touching

iii i would say false but that's just a guess

    iv defiantly true

v i have no idea about this one but i would say false because cold objects is a vast category but i don't know the actual reason
Let's start with the understanding that heat transfer is relative as is radiation. Hot objects will absorb radiated energy from hotter objects and cold objects will emit radiation (maybe not much but they will emit something).

In iv I suppose they expect you to say ';True';, but ';always'; answers are often problematic since convection might involve plasma (neither a liquid nor a gas).

True or false. heat causes most solids, liquids, and gases to contract?

    False

In most cases, the heated object will expand.

However, In some cases, heating causes a contraction.

e.g., heating ice, to water causes a contraction between the water molecules.

Shrink plastics also contract when heated.True or false. heat causes most solids, liquids, and gases to contract?
False. The opposite is true. Temperature is really the measure of how fast atom molecules are moving. As more atoms move, the temperature increases. If heat means that more atoms are moving, then solids, liquids and gases are more likely to expand (since they don't want to sit around in one place). Now with cold temperatures, contraction is more likely to occur as it indicates that the atoms are not moving as fast.True or false. heat causes most solids, liquids, and gases to contract?
False, it causes them to expand. Think of melting an ice cube or boiling a pot of water...

Living systems convert heat energy into chemical energy in order to reduce entropy..Its false but why?

I found it in just here but did not understand......Living systems convert heat energy into chemical energy in order to reduce entropy..Its false but why?
Heat energy into chemical energy? That doesn't sound right to me. I'm studying bacteria and such that live in really hot environments, and they don't directly use the heat to make chemical energy. A more correct answer would be that Living systems convert 'radiation' (not heat) into chemical energy. (via photosynthesis)

secondly entropy IS reduced when this happens but that's not really the purpose of it.

side note that's probably off topic, the entropy is only reduced IN the cell. the overall entropy in the surrounding is increased. So overall entropy is actually not reduced.

my friend told me even using a straightener on low heat or blow drying hair will help it grow. i really want my hair to grow as long as possible as fast as possible. advice?I heard heat is good for helping hair to grow. true or false?
Quite the opposite. Applying heat to hair is a good way to cause it to break off and become shorter.I heard heat is good for helping hair to grow. true or false?

using a straightener or blow drying will not help hair grow. If used to much it will actually damage your hair.

However, hair usually grows faster in the summer time because it is warmer outside. Also, salt water helps hair grow, so if you go to the beach a lot your hair may grow faster.
No. Heat just damages hair, it dries up and gradually destroys the cuticles of the hair.

what makes hair grow faster and healthier is blood flow. Maybe that is what you meant by ';heat';. To increase the blood flow going to the roots you can use a brush with bristles that massage your scalp, you can apply gentle tapping to the roots and also massage.

You can also use hot pepper/ paprika tincture. It has the same effects. For further information search google.
Well for one try using Mane N' Tail Horse Shampoo. I use it all the

time and it makes your hair grow faster. I;d say massage it into

your scalp b/c thats going to help the roots if you just put it on

the ends, it not going to do anything to it. You can find it at

walmart in the pet section. also you should drink plenty of water

to condition your hair and when shampooing and conditioning you should

use cold or luke warm water on your hair so it won't damage it.

Even hot water hurts your hair.

FALSE!!! Heat causes damage to your hair. Which equals it growing slowly. No heat is better for your hair which equals hair to grow faster.
