Actually you dont need much heat. in fact if you want to destroy a diamond all you need is ultraviolet light and Oxygen. this process is slow, but eventually the oxygen is ionized and attacks the carbon in diamons and creats CO2

Well like the first guy said it would have to be pretty hot. But I am pretty sure any substance can be destroyed by heat, but some require so much heat that it cannot be produced by man.
